What's the point of upgrading to the latest version of Wordpress if it doesn't fix anything?!?
I don't know why my sidebar decided to move below everything all of a sudden. I thought it had something to do with whatever was causing my editor not to format properly, requiring me to code my posts with extra div tags, but the upgrade took care of my formatting problem. So why did my sidebar decide to move?????

The Tutor Connection
Okay, so we're a week behind schedule in having the site complete, though we can take students, we just can't schedule them through the website. The fault is mostly mine as I dilly-dallied in the beginning while I went through my transition crisis and still thought of the project as in the future. He did his absolute best to meet the deadline, and thought he could do it, but he didn't realize quite how involved the scheduling aspect of the coding was going to be. He's busting his butt working hours at a stretch, and at last! today, I'm seeing the results of his labor.
I have to tell you, I have loved this young man's work from the very beginning, when I first saw his whiteboard interface at the NTA convention in April. I told the story of how we met, didn't I? At the airport, in a shuttle to downtown? I was wearing an NTA pouch that I had from a prior year, and he saw the logo and said that was where he was going, too! We started talking and I was impressed from the beginning, but when I saw what he'd developed, I was even more so. So when I finally decided that the café idea would have to go to the back burner while I started small with the online tutoring, I of course chose him. Payment influenced me as well, but I was happy that I could make a deal with him because he was the one I wanted from the beginning.
So he's been doing all the behind the scenes work on the website. I bought a template that he adapted to his own CMS system, which is so much easier to navigate and much, much more user friendly than the bulky and confusing Joomla, an open-source product that really is quite good, but has way more functionality than I will ever need and which just made me tear my hair out as I was learning it (that's another reason we're behind schedule-I though we'd be able to go with that, but it was just too complicated).
Anyway, this post is all about Eli because he deserves it. He has made the most pleasing, easy to use system of viewing tutor profiles and scheduling that I have ever seen. He is an awesome, talented programmer. If any of you ever need the services of such, I recommend him highly. You can find him here:

I can't believe it. Tomorrow my site goes live! I'm just a little bit behind schedule, so it won't work until a little later in the day, and a couple of things aren't quite complete, but the important stuff is. Of course, no tutors will actually be tutoring tomorrow because no students have been able to sign up yet, and being Labor Day, the likelihood is slim that any one will for a few days yet. But still! It's here!!!

So, I got my laptop back from the shop last weekend, but it still wasn't quite fixed. Before taking it in, I did a complete restore, which didn't help, and made it act even crazier. Well, it was still acting crazy, meaning something went wrong with the restore. So I had to restore it AGAIN. The thing is, I use honking big programs which take forever to install, and lots of programs of varying size. Lots. So. I've lost hours and hours of work time just getting my computer back into shape. And, of course, nothing is ever simple with me and computers. There is always SOMETHING that doesn't go right. Like my Palm wouldn't synch. And the backup file of contacts that I exported from my Palm desktop program to synch to my Palm after the restore turned out to be only one contact. $#*$*&*# aaaaarrrrrrrgg ggghhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!! I'd spent over an hour or more combining all of my addresses into one neat file. So tonight, I did it all over again.
I finally got my Palm to synch, but forgot that I need to install a program on my computer that makes it synch Microsoft Money to it also. That's what I use as my checkbook register. I don't remember where that program is. I know it's on a backup disk, I just don't know which one. I'm not that great at organizing my disks other than writing the date of each backup on the CD. I have to go through all the ones I think it might be on to find it. One day, I'm going to do a big reorganization of all of my important files. When I have nothing else to do. Which means probably never.
My husband teases me and says I give out some kind of aura or energy that messes with all the computers I've had. Sometimes I think it's true because he never seems to have the problems that I do, and often, the problems I do have are completely new to him. He's never seen them happen before. I suppose there's a silver lining to that. He learns something new in case he ever comes across it again. :-P
But, at last, I'm up and running again. And this time I didn't put everything on it that I usually do. I decided I'd add things as I actually use them.
